HE-R10 Dynamic Version (open-box)

I have found the HE-R10D to be a highly specialized headphone rather than an all-rounder.

With typical studio recordings, its tuning is not ideal for my taste. The bass can sound somewhat bloomy, crash cymbals may become piercing, and the upper midrange, particularly guitars, sounds somewhat recessed and lacks fine detail.

However, these characteristics become strengths with live recordings. The full-bodied bass creates the convincing impression of listening in a small live venue. Since the upper frequencies of many live recordings are naturally rougher than those of studio recordings, the smoother presentation of the HE-R10D makes them more enjoyable without sounding overly harsh. Likewise, crash cymbals in live recordings are usually less sharply captured, so the tendency toward brightness is no longer an issue.

For these reasons, I use the HE-R10D almost exclusively for live recordings, where it delivers an immersive and highly enjoyable listening experience.
